The NEBOSH HSE Certificate in Process Safety Management (PSM) provides learners with a practical understanding of process safety principles and the management of major accident hazards. It provides learners with a sound breadth of knowledge and understanding to contribute to the management of process safety risks.
The qualification is designed for people who work in process industries such as oil and gas refining, chemicals, plastics and pharmaceuticals manufacturing, including managers, supervisors, safety representatives and health and safety advisors.

Entry Requirements

The qualification consists of one unit, divided into four key elements.
- Element 1: Process Safety Leadership
- Element 2: Management of Process Risk
- Element 3: Process Safety Hazard Control
- Element 4: Fire and Explosion Protection
Assessment
Unit PSM1 is assessed through a 90-minute, 40-question multiple-choice examination. The assessment must be accessed and completed via NEBOSH’s Online Assessment Platform within a 24-hour assessment window, with remote proctoring to ensure integrity. A score of 60% or higher is required to achieve a Pass.
